Buses stop running earlier than you might expect, often around 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM in shoulder seasons. Don't get stranded at the far end of the Alster!
Late morning after rush hour is great. Sundays are fantastic because the port is busy, the Fish Market (early morning) has just finished, and the city has a relaxed vibe.
Essential for 'Bus & Boat' combos on weekends and holidays. The boats have limited capacity compared to the continuous bus loops.
Note that while some Hamburg museums are free on certain days, the private hop-on hop-off buses always require a paid ticket.
